Our blog name is inspired by the famous astronomer and intellect Carl Sagan. In his work, The Pale Blue Dot, he describes the image of Earth as seen from the Voyager spacecraft. With incredible insight and clarity, he reminds us of our place in this expansive universe. While we may inhabit but a tiny corner of the pale blue dot that is Earth, and in spite of its imperfections, every traveler will tell you of the endless riches and beauty that exists. From the perspective of those living within this planet, it is not tiny but rather enormous and diverse......and thus our name, Big Blue Dot. Carl Sagan puts it very succinctly when he says "It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."
